Maixu is a synergetic collaboration of Ma Kowasz and Argitxu Etchebarne, who met during the Master in Design Explorations & Translations program at the Icelandic University of Arts. Currently based in Berlin, Maixu comes from Iceland, where they established their design practice. The duet specialises in inhabiting liminal spaces - Ma and Argi draw their experience from different sources and practices, searching for diverse ways to bend realities and distort common representations of existing systems, stories and relations. Since 2022 Maixu focused their practice on working on sets, having had the pleasure to work on international projects and learn from diverse amateurs and professionals. Their most recent works involve sculpting, painting and dressing the stage for Björk, leading a set dressing for Riot Games productions and working on movie sets at Irma, the leading production design studio in Iceland. Apart from working with the heavily vision-based media, Ma and Argi love to experiment with other senses involving sound, scent, taste and touch, as well as to shift the focus to more-than-human perspectives, researching diverse biological and technological worlds.
